Research areas
TIESS goal is to combine different academic and scientific networks, allowing for more holistic approaches and understandings, and placing the Institute, through its membership, to a privileged position in order to contribute in diverse research efforts.
In a primary level TIESS will try to contribute in the following directions:
1) Climate change (political ground, socio-historical context, technical solutions and ethical stances)
2) Postdemocracy, Empire and Neoliberalism.
3) Extreme right parties in E.U.
4) International Environmental Politics (biodiversity, genetic resources for food and agriculture, food security, food security, deep sea mining and environmental management)
5) Theory and politics of the commons.
6) Populism and populist parties in Europe.

About us
TIESS ambition is to create an interdisciplinary environment that brings together lines of thoughts and applications from a variety of scientific and artistic fields. Thus, this brief description may be partially doomed to failure from the very beginning if one is looking for an explicit and accurate account of everything that will take place under the Institute’s auspices.
Promoting knowledge-based activities, particularly promoting knowledge generation and sharing for its inherent value rather than linked to some direct benefit, creates additional challenges. These necessitate an extra layer of experimentation making the final outcome contingent.
Notwithstanding these challenges, TIESS’ early ambition is to focus on:
• Primary research and research networking
Drawing initially from the fields of environmental and social studies, the Institute will develop a network of researchers, creating a pool of high-quality experts in a position to contribute in different lines of research. The ambition is to combine different academic and scientific networks, allowing for holistic approaches and understandings, and placing the Institute, through its membership, to a privileged position in order to contribute in diverse research efforts.
• Knowledge promotion and knowledge sharing
Through a series of seminars, workshops, symposiums, webinars and conferences, the Institute will encompass different scientific disciplines and interests. This will enable knowledge promotion and sharing, while simultaneously will bring together various experts allowing for creative interactions.
• Knowledge dissemination
Through a series of publishing activities the Institute will promote the dissemination of knowledge generated within the Institute. It will also allow for the publication of external scientific or artistic work in the form of translations into the Greek language or publication of primary work.
