TIESS Researcher in Conference on Social Movements and the Law

Elsa Tsioumani, a researcher affiliated with the Transdisciplinary Institute for Environmental and Social Studies (TIESS), has recently participated at a conference on “Social Movements and the Law: Legal mobilization in a comparative perspective” organized by the Centre on Social Movement Studies at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Florence, Italy.

Elsa Tsioumani, who works on behalf of TIESS on the Horizon project DAISY, together with Bartek Goldmann and Louisa Parks of the project TRANSFORM in the University of Trento, presented on Indigenous Peoples’ participation in the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and their political and legal mobilization for environmental justice. The presentation was part of a session on environmental and territorial justice, and produced a series of insights on societal actors of transformation, interlinkages between political and legal mobilization, and the limits of legal tools.
